This is an aluminum flange designed by Thomas, a road motorcycle enthusiast from the UK. Supro MFG made many valuable suggestions to the customer to reduce manufacturing costs and functionality, which was praised and recognized by Thomas.
For the initial design, Thomas did not know how to choose a metal material with good wear resistance, light weight and excellent corrosion resistance. Stainless steel, aluminum alloy, carbon steel, titanium alloy and other materials were in the proposal, other competitors chose the metal material of aluminum alloy 6063-T5, but the team of experts at supro thought that such a design could be made in the material 6061, which is better in terms of strength and machinability. 6061 material, after aluminum alloy heat treatment to get 6061-T6 material, mechanical properties are stronger, and will not increase the cost of materials.
Thomas liked the idea of painting the metal parts and wanted a glossy color effect, but painting did not bring out the unique metallic texture of the aluminum alloy, and the team at Supro MFG recommended a glossy blue hard anodized finish, which would increase wear resistance, improve surface hardness, and provide an artistic look that would be more in keeping with the outdoor extreme sports style.
We added a threaded hole on the side of the aluminum flange to prevent the flange from falling off during vibration when the screws are installed.

6061-T6 is an aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy that is a heat-treatable, reinforced aluminum alloy.
