Common Issues with Metal Faceplates

In high-end electronics, medical devices, and professional audio equipment, metal faceplates are key to conveying a brand’s sense of quality. They serve as the “front-facing” interface that users interact with daily. Even a tiny scratch, a slight color variation, or misalignment of I/O ports can lead to costly batch returns and damage to the brand’s image. Based on strict aesthetic standards and hardware engineering feedback, we have analyzed several common defects, their root causes, and our precision solutions.

Warping (Out-of-Plane Distortion) of Metal Faceplates

The panel bends or warps, preventing flush installation with the chassis. This is caused by the release of internal material stress when punching high-density vent hole arrays or D-sub connectors into thin-gauge material.

We use tension-leveled metal sheets and optimize the CNC punching sequence (staggered punching pattern) to minimize localized stress concentration. After machining, the metal faceplate undergoes precision roller leveling to ensure absolute flatness before any surface finishing is applied.

Fading or Peeling of Screen-Printed Markings

Text, logos, and indicator markings are prone to peeling or scratching after minimal wear during actual use. This is typically caused by insufficient surface degreasing prior to printing or the use of low-cost, non-UV-cured commercial inks.

We use RoHS-compliant, specialized two-component epoxy inks and employ a heat-curing process to ensure optimal adhesion. For applications requiring permanent durability, we recommend and offer high-contrast fiber laser engraving services to ensure your brand logos and I/O labels never wear off.

Micro-burrs in I/O cutouts

Tiny sharp edges left inside USB, HDMI, or switch cutouts can snag cables, damage internal PCB components during assembly, or injure end users.

Conventional roller deburring often damages the surface finish. Therefore, we use specialized CNC brush deburring tools and perform meticulous manual deburring of complex I/O ports under a magnifying glass to ensure all internal cutouts are smooth, flat, and completely safe.

Shipping Scratches on the “A-Side”

Metal Faceplates may develop scuffs and fine scratches during shipping due to metal-on-metal friction, or because low-quality protective films leave behind permanent adhesive residue on the brushed surface.

We protect the "A-side" with high-quality, residue-free, medium-tack polyethylene (PE) film. Each Metal Faceplate is individually packaged in an anti-static bubble wrap bag and placed face-to-face in a custom die-cut EVA foam tray, ensuring zero movement during transit so that the product arrives at your assembly facility in perfect condition.
